The Commission is the
executive body of the Agreement.
Its members are appointed by the States.
The Commission is composed of 7 delegates, including a Head of Delegation,
for each of the three countries, and it is chaired by each Head of Delegation
in turn for a period of two years.
Its role is to make proposals and to encourage
and inform national and local governments, the scientific and technical
community, and the general public.
It is responsible for carrying out the 4 tasks which have been entrusted
to it by the terms of the Agreement, viz.:
To examine
all issues of joint concern relating to water pollution,
To bring
about cooperation between competent administrative departments with the
aim of identifying polluted zones and providing information relating to
development projects likely to create serious risks of water pollution,
To encourage
and if necessary sponsor research projects, exchanges of information and
expert meetings in the framework of scientific cooperation in areas it
shall define,
To propose
to the three participating governments any measures likely to protect
water quality, notably through specific agreements.
Through the proposals it makes to the Governments of the three signatory
States, the RAMOGE Commission becomes their preferred partner in matters
relating to the integrated management of
the coastline covered by the Agreement.
